INTERVIEW: Nick Carroll – Paddle for Disabled Surfers

I shot this interview almost entirely with my Nokia N95!

A bit of background by Nick:

Last December I broke my leg surfing in Hawaii, and while sitting around in a cast for the next few months, got to imagining: what if your WHOLE LIFE was about NOT being able to surf?

Right! I thought, time to do something about it! On July 29, on behalf of the Disabled Surfers Association of Australia, I’m going to paddle in the Quiksilveredition Molokai to Oahu Paddleboard Race — the biggest and scariest paddleboard race in the world. And what’s more: YOU can torment me in the process!

The Disabled Surfers Association of Australia is an amazing organization of committed surfers whose mission is to bring the surfing experience to disabled people of all ages and backgrounds. They rely on volunteers ranging from the likes of Taj Burrow, Tom Carroll and Barton Lynch, to skilled local surfers on beaches around Australia. They are world leaders in the extraordinary art of spreading surf stoke where nobody would’ve believed it could go!
Nonetheless their efforts are funded solely through donations, mostly from good hearted people who’ve seen the DSAA’s work and the miracles it’s produced for disabled people for over 20 years (and counting).
