RealSurf.tv FAQ
Q: So, what’s the point of this site?
A: In late 2006, RealSurf webmaster Don Norris, posted a short surf video on the site. In less than a year, he’d produced more than 30 similar efforts and it dawned on him that there really ought to be an easily-searched place for all this content. So, in early September of 2007 this site was launched.
The purpose of this exercise is simple: to provide a place where the RealSurf community can keep the surfing videos it makes. Don’s fond hope is one day to be just another contributor to the collection on realsurf.tv. Note too, that we said surfing videos. If it’s not primarily surfing related, we will leave it to others to publish.
Q: So, does that mean I can submit a video that I’ve posted to YouTube, Metacafe, etc?
A: Yes! Please use our submission form to tell us a little about your video and to send us a link so that we can check it out. If we reckon it’ll be of interest to your fellow RealSurfer’s, we’ll post it in the realsurf.tv blog.
Q: Blog? What’s this blog stuff about? Won’t my video appear in that list on the front page?
A: The short answer is that video submissions which link to another website such as YouTube or MetaCafe cannot, for various annoying technical reasons, appear in the front page list. However, we have gone to great effort to make them easy to find in our blog.
Q: How can I find videos of a particular place or date?
A: There are a number of ways to find videos on our site:
- The most recently filed RealSurf videos are always on the realsurf.tv home page (If we posted the video, it’ll be in the main column list. If the video has been submitted to us as a link to another site such as YouTube, it will appear as the latest entry in our video blog.)
- Previously posted videos can be located by clicking on any blue date on our calendar (the blue dates indicate a video was filed then)
- Previously posted videos can also be found by clicking on a particular month under the vid blog heading.
- Videos filed by RealSurf are also grouped under the Sections heading by season (eg, Autumn 2007)
- Videos are always assigned to at least one category. Clicking on any of the options under the category heading will show a list of all the videos in that particular instance.
- The Popular Tags section in the side menu also allows you to see all videos that share a particular tag (eg Long Reef)
- and, finally, you can also use the search box to look for a video by location, author, etc.
Q: When you say summer, winter, etc, what months are you talking about?
A: Summer: December to February, Autumn: March to May, Winter: June to August
Spring: September to November.
